You want the best?

We’ve got the best RV generator 2018 choices, as rated by actual Amazon customers.

These three drew the most 5-star ratings, and were overwhelmingly chosen as best for RVers around the world.

Briggs & Stratton 30651 P2200 Series Portable Inverter Generator

best rv generator

Coming in with 224 (63%) 5-star reviews as of April, 2018, this powerful little unit will power everything from your cell phone to your 15,000 BTU air conditioner — or your 1500 watt space heaters this winter.

It’s quiet and efficient, producing 1,100 starting watts and 1,700 running watts.

The unit is totally safe for your sensitive electronics, such as laptops, cell phones, TVs and game systems.

The thrifty 1-gallon fuel tank will supply power for up to 8 hours at 25% load.

And, it’s quiet — at 59 decibels, that’s about the same level as a normal conversation.

Things we particularly like:

  • It offers a variety of outlets, including the important 12V-20A DC outlet and two 120V-20A household outlets.
  • A dedicated parallel connector port allows you to connect two  PowerSmart Series inverter generators together to pull even more power.
  • The ultra low price for the comparative power output. You can pay much more, of course, but not get as much bang for your buck, in our opinion.

Things that might need improvement:

  • A small minority of customers reported mechanical failure (remedied quickly by B&S).
  • Some reported it was not as quiet as advertised (but again, this was only a handful).

Westinghouse WH2200iXLT Portable Inverter Generator

best rv generator

After making its market debut late last year, this little gem of a genertor will likely soon dominate the RV market.

It has already pulled in 152 (66%) 5-star reviews. And, when you add in the 4-star reviews, its approval rating is an astounding 84%.

At an incredibly low price under $500 to start, you won’t find a better value for your money.

And here are a few of its many benefits:

Weighs in at only 43 pounds, the lightest portable we’ve found in its class.

It safely powers everything from laptops to small air conditioners and heaters.

Runs for an incredible 13 hours — all night — on a 25% load. The gas tank hold 1.3 gallons.

Things we particularly like:

  • It is very quiet at 59 decibels — again, about as quiet as a normal conversation.
  • The unit features a 3-year warranty — one of the longest we’ve seen.
  • It is CARB-compliant – making it available for use in California.

Things that might need improvement:

  • Six of more than 250 reviewers reported mechanical issues, which Westinghouse fixed promptly.
  • One reviewer warned that the warranty covers only parts and labor for a year by the manufacturer. But emission controls are covered for two years by a third party. Hence the three-year warranty.

Champion Power Equipment 75537i 3100 Watt RV Ready Portable Inverter Generator with Wireless Remote Start

best rv generators

This is the Cadillac of portable RV generators — or, as we should call it, “transportable,” weighing in at 95 pounds.

Not an item you’ll want to lug up and down the steps of your coach, but if you can make room for it in a storage bay, it will pay you back with an incredible amount of power.

At a whopping 3100 watts of starting power and a very quiet 58 decibels, we feel it’s the best value on this or any other page.

Here are a few benefits:

First and foremost, a remote keyfob start — very handy for those winter evenings when you might not want to go outside and pull a hand crank.

Plus, it runs longer than many similar units in its price range at 8 hours on a 25% load.

Finally, while it’s not as inexpensive as the other two mentioned here, it’s definitely worth the price.

Things we particularly like:

  • Sensitive enough to power your portable electronics — yet strong enough to run just about everything you can load it up with.
  • It’s RV ready with a 120V 30A RV, plus two 120V 20A household outlets and a clean power 12V DC outlet with dual USB adapter.

Things that might need improvement:

  • Not much. With almost 200 5-star reviews (72%), there didn’t seem to be much to complain about.
  • A few folks said it requires a few remote tries to get it started on very cold mornings.
