BLACK+DECKER 12-Cup Mill and Brew Coffeemaker, Black, CM5000B

top rated grind and brew coffee makers

We’ll start with a well-known brand that also happens to be the absolute lowest priced unit on the page.

Black and Decker has been making high-quality products for decades — and this entry in our best coffee makers with grinders 2017 list is no different.

It’s all about efficiency in keeping the brew basket combined with the coffee grinder. This makes the grind and brew process super-fast.

Plus, we really appreciated the brew strength selector, letting us decide how strong a brew we wanted each time.

In addition, this unit is fully programmable, so you can choose to awaken to the smell of freshly ground beans and brew.

Just pour in the beans and the water, set the timer, and you’re all set.

Things we like about this unit:

  • Obviously, the whole package of the best coffee maker with grinder in one unit is very appealing.
  • And at this low price, why get a coffee maker that just brews?

Things we found to be less than perfect:

  • The grind function is performed by a blade like that in a blender, instead of by the preferable burr grinder.
  • That’s a tradeoff that allows for a lower price.
  • (See our explanation of the differences in blade vs burr further down in this post).

Cuisinart DGB-550BK 12 Cup Automatic Coffeemaker

top rated grind and brew coffee makers

Here’s one of the top rated grind and brew coffee makers on the market today.

Although it also utilizes the less-desirable blade grinder in its wheelhouse, this little unit nevertheless has garnered more than 650 five-star reviews.

It grinds your premium whole beans just before brewing automatically — so you can awaken not to the annoying whine of an insistent alarm clock but the pleasant aroma of your favorite brew.

There’s also a 12-cup carafe featuring an ergonomic handle and dripless pour spout.

Things we like about this unit:

  • It provides a separate grinding assembly and filter chamber making it easy to add beans and extract used grounds.
  • In addition, there’s a convenient “grind-off” switch in case you want to add coffee that’s already been ground.

Things we found to be less than perfect:

  • As mentioned, the grinding mechanism is the less-than-desirable blade-type.
  • And, there were a few complaints about a need to clean the filter basket often.

Special thanks to cnet

Capresso CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder

top rated grind and brew coffee makers

This little gem is surely among the top rated grind and brew coffee makers.

First thing to be impressed with is the low price for the luxury of a conical burr grinder.

This feature, as noted above, grinds your beans, as they say, exceedingly fine, so you can take full advantage of oils and less dissipated heat during the grind process]

In addition, this unit is fully programmable so you can set it the night before, load your beans and water, and have the freshest coffee ever waiting for you right after (or before) your morning shower.

Things we like about this unit:

  • There is a Brew-Pause function, so you can sneak a cup before it’s fully brewed
  • You can brew with or without the grinder — although we’re at a loss as to why you might want to do that unless your great Aunt Harriet brought a special Christmas blend she wants to try.

Things we found to be less than perfect:

    • The grinder is a bit loud, possibly waking you up before your desired time.
    • Some customers found that oily beans gummed up in the grinding process.

Breville BDC650BSS Grind Control, Silver

best espresso machine under 2000

One of the best things about this unit is its built-in ability to adjust the grind — either finer or more coarse, depending on your taste. This proved to be a huge hit among our evaluation crew.

Since ground coffee should be brewed within a minute of grinding — to capture the volatile aromatics that begin to dissipate quickly — you can more fully experience the nuances of your exotic coffee beans with this unit.

Once you’ve had your coffee this way, you’ll never go back to canned again.

Things we like about this unit:

  • The machined stainless steel burrs deliver consistent ground particle sizes for a more balanced, full flavored cup.
  • Eight strength settings make it easy to enjoy just the right brew for you.
  • You can brew anything from a single cup to a 12-cup carafe.
  • And, to really top things off, a removable drip tray accommodates tall cups and travel mugs.

Things we found to be less than perfect:

  • Now and then, we found the output to have a mind of its own, only filling our cups halfway, despite being told what size to brew.
  • As with other grind and brew units, this coffee maker sometimes clogs when grinding particularly oily beans,

DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine

best espresso machine under 2000

The last two featured coffee makers with grinders are intended to give you superb specialty coffees with a minimum of effort.

It presents a challenge to decide which is the best grind and brew coffee maker on the market today.

We tried both the DeLonghi Magnifica and the Breville Barista Express for an extended period and honestly must give both an unqualified five stars.

The Magnifica creates authentic Italian cappuccinos and lattes practically on autopilot. We just selected whole beans to start (you can also select ground coffee but, again, why would you?)

Then we selected our own individual coffee strength settings and cup size options (the system remembers personal preferences) and the machine took it from there, producing the perfect drink for everyone on the team — right down to the unique frother, which created a rich, creamy finish.

Things we like about this unit:

  • There’s an integrated burr grinder with adjustable settings to assure maximum freshness for each coffee creation.
  • And, it was easy to mix steam and milk to get honestly the thickest, creamiest cappuccino foam we’ve ever seen outside a Starbuck’s.
  • Then, we adjusted the levels to create a wonderful latte for everyone.

Things we found to be less than perfect:

  • Honestly, not much to find fault with here.
  • The machine comes with a warning not to use beans that are too oily, so we didn’t.
  • And, some customers complained that they had to get it serviced after five years’ use. Seriously?

Breville BES870XL Barista Express Espresso Machine

best espresso machine under 2000

We’ve truly saved the best for last. This one especially can easily be considered the best espresso machine under 2000.

Racking up a stupendous 998 five-star ratings, this Breville espresso machine took our collective breath away, making it the very personification of Best Coffee Maker With Grinder.

Creating a perfect espresso is admittedly more art than science, But we found in testing this unit that even a novice barista can pull a perfect shot by making use of two dual-wall, pressurized filters that regulate pressure and help optimize the extraction.

For those with more experience, the Barista Express includes two single-wall, non-pressurized filters that give more room to experiment with different grind sizes, grind amounts, and tamping pressure.

All of which translates to the perfect cup of espresso — going from beans to brew in under a minute.

Talk about fresh!

For those with a need to know technical details about how the Barista Express does its job so well, here’s a bit of info from Breville:

  • “In addition to its integrated burr grinder, the Breville Barista Express has an Italian-manufactured 15 bar pump and thermocoil heating system that ensures accurate regulation of water temperature for a full-flavored espresso.
  • “A pre-brew function and flat shower head make sure that the water is optimally distributed through the coffee puck.
  • “The Barista Express also has several helpful features, such as a cup warmer on the top of the machine and a feature that removes excess water from the filter basket after coffee extraction, so the used grounds form a dry puck for quicker cleanup.
  • “Lastly, it has a stainless steel 360 degree swivel-action steam wand for lattes and cappuccinos.”

Overall, we must deem this the best coffee machine with grinder on the market today.

Things we like about this unit:

  • It features an integrated conical burr grinder and half-pound bean hopper — more capacity than any other unit.
  • It allowed us to choose grind size from coarse to fine, then let us regulate the amount of freshly ground espresso dosed into the filter basket.
  • And, it provided a dozen other features that made each coffee creation a pleasure.

Things we found to be less than perfect:

  • Once again, we’re at a bit of a loss here. Perhaps the price is an issue, but you truly get what you pay for.
  • And, out of more than 1300 reviews, only a handful complained about mechanical failures, which the company made good on.

Burr Grinders Versus Blade Grinders: What’s the Difference?

best coffee makers with grinders

In a word, granularity.

Burr grinders result in a much more even result than blade grinders, simply because the process is a bit less mechanical.

Blade grinders behave like a blender, chopping ruthlessly until the beans are in a pile of uneven bits.

And, all that chopping results in considerable heat — dissipating potential flavor from your beans long before they have a chance to brew.

Burr grinders rub the beans together and against fixed parts inside the grinder until they are as fine as grains of sand.

This much less violent activity results in an orderly collection of finely ground bean remnants ready for the brewing process.

That’s it, then, for this review of best coffee makers with grinders.
